What is your dog's name?
Tanner
How old is your dog?
18-24 months
What breed is your dog?
Redbone Coonhound
Is your dog up to date on their vaccinations and can you provide proof of that?
Yes
Why did you select this particular dog or breed?
We've owned other redbone and redbone mixes in the past. Great personalities - energetic, cuddly, smart, loving, independent. Tanner is a rescue from Texas, and there are a lot of great coonhounds in shelters in the south that need homes!
Age and/or Physical disabilities
Adult age with no physical issues
Please detail any issues that may make training hard for you to participate in.
None
What has been your ownership history with dogs to date?
Tanner is the third dog that my wife (Deb) and I have owned together. We both had dogs previously.
How many days per week are you willing to train your dog?
7
How much time per day are you willing to train your dog?
2-3 hours
Does your dog require house training?
No
What has been your history to date of training dogs?
Done obedience classes with most of our dogs, have worked with private trainers and in group settings. We've trained one of our coonhounds for nosework.
Have your previous dog training results been satisfactory to you?.Yes

If you have participated in dog training in the past but not finished, please explain why.
I once took one of our previous dogs to a group training class that we did not complete. I did not like all of the the trainer's methods, and the facilty was very noisy, which made it hard for me and my dog to focus.
Please describe goals for training your dog.
We adopted Tanner about three moths ago. He is a wonderful dog in so many ways - he is loving, energetic, fun, and eager to please. We know little about his background. Although he showed no signs of abuse, he seems to have had no exposure to the world or socialization with other dogs. He barks a lot - he is easily overstimulated by anything that he sees from the window - people, other dogs, cars and trucks, birds, etc. We would like him to be more calm and bark less in the house and in the car. He is very tentative about other dogs. Sometimes he will let another dog approach, but usually will bark at other dogs to try to get them to move away. Ultimately, we would like for him to be comfortable with most other dogs, and be able to safely take him to places where there are other dogs. Ideally, we'd also love to be able to board him at a facility with other dogs when we travel. Finally, it would be FANASTIC if he could off leash outdoors. NOTE - I have selected the "Pack Learning Day Program" below, but we are open to any option that you believe will best match these goals.
Please describe interactions your dog or dogs have with adult family members, friends, or other adult.
Tanner is good with people - great with my wife and me, and happy to have visitors in the house. He's friendly with people we've met while out for walks
Please describe the exposure or interactions your dog or dogs have with children.
In a limited number of interactions with children, Tanner has behaved well
Please list the household family members interacting with your dog(s) now.
Me and my wfie
List any and all aggressive interactions your dog or dogs have had with adults and children.
None
List any and all aggressive interactions your dog or dogs have had with other dogs.
Tanner is apprehensive about all other dogs, even little ones. He has never bitten or attacked another dog, but he has charged at other dogs and barked agressively at them. This is our biggest concern and the issue that we'd most like to improve.
List and describe any and all behavioral problems that you have observed in your dog(s)
As described above - overstimulation, excessive baring, bad behavior towards other dogs.
Please describe any reactiveness you have seen between your dog or dogs and strange dogs and/or humans.
As described abov
Does your dog have anxiety or fear issues?
Occasionally in unfamiliar situations
Have you received any professional training help with your current dog or dogs referenced in this questionaire?
Some work with Barkbusters
Please describe the frequency of leashed walks, unleashed exercise or dog sports that your dog(s) are currently involved in.
Tanner tyipcally goes for an 8 mile run every day (he runs with a lead attached to my bike using a commercially designed device). He typically goes for 2 additional walks that are about a mile long. Finally, we bought a dog-specific treadmill that we'll use witth him once a day for about 30 minutes (twice if it's raining and he can't go outside). He also loves to swim in the ocean, and would swim for stretches as long as a 1/2 mile.
Please describe the socialization and family activity experiences that your dog or dogs have experienced to date. (ie vacations, hikes, parks visited, strange houses visited, or commercial retail stores visited).
We tried Tanner at daycare, but he became increasingly anxious the other dogs, to a point where he was barking constantly. It wasn't working out, so we stopped bringing him. We were going to the beach with him over the summer. For the most part, he ignored the other dogs and swam and chased seagulls.
What type of environment does your dog or dogs live in (ie house, apartment, outside, kennel)?
Home
What items has your dog destroyed inside or outside your house?
None intentionally. He damaged one of the blinds when he got very excited about something outside and jumped up on the window, catching the blind with one of his front paws. Despite being energetic and overstimulated, he does not have a destructive streak. Also, we keep him busy with exercise and activities.
