Six Week Schedule for Basic Dog 1 (Dogs over six months old)

WEEK 1:   Sit on the Dog Exercise, Long Line Exercise,

WEEK 2:  (Review) Long Line, (New) Molded Sits, (New) Heel, (New) Release Command

WEEK 3:  (Review) Heel, (Review) Molded Sits, (Updated) Sit with Correction, (New) Stand, (New) Place, (New) Stay,

WEEK 4:  (Review) Heel with sits,  (Review) Sit goal of four in a row without correction (Review) Stand,  (Review) Place,  (Review) Stay,  (New) Down, (New) Recall,

WEEK 5:  Mixing up commands to be used in new ways, and in distracting settings.

WEEK 6:  Graduation day. Dog owners who are able to complete this exam to the trainer's satisfaction will receive a certificate of completion for the 6 week Basic Dog course at Mannerly Mutts. Also we will give additional information and answer any lingering questions based on the clients' individual needs. Also we will discuss any future training goals, timing, and whether the needs of the Basic Dog 1 class have met the needs of the client.

***Each lesson will end by discussing the comfort level of the client with the lesson. Also we will answer any questions clients have at the end of the lessons. Limited questions will be allowed during the lesson, as there is a lot to do in the space of an hour. I am more than happy to extend the lesson at no cost, to answer questions on the lesson itself, puppy care, general dog training issues, and many other things.

Week 3 Lured Heeling

  STEP 1:    Lure your puppy into a sit in heel position (puppy's shoulder should line up with your leg) on the side of you and facing in the same direction as you .  When sitting in position, you can give your puppy the food reward. Week 3 Quiet Command The Beginning

 If you can not get Tanner to bark, then you can use his low whine to start with.   That being said, some ideas for barking: Start outside where he might see something he is interested in barking at. If you have time and he starts barking, take the time to practice this then.  Some common occurrences of this might be mail man, oil man, dog barking in the distance, unable to get to one of you for whatever reason (and assuming other person has Tanner), video of dogs on YouTube might help.  In auto is the obvious, but for many reasons this is not the ideal place to start, although it could be done (more difficult to design it for the beginning point though). Sometimes if one of the owners rides a bike that will make a dog bark. If you are out walking and he is on leash, that could be a good time to practice with him if he sees a dog.
